Our Radish Harvest / Portugal / 2004, February, 3

Hello! We are Portuguese students!

Some trees around our school are flowering already! Spring is coming!

Today, it's a bright and sunny day, the temperature is agreeable : 18º C

It's time to harvest our friend Sakurajima Radish!

 We think it is ready to be harvest because it is getting sprouts.

We think this one would like to stay in the soil more time to be bigger!

We are laughing because there were earthworms and Ana was afraid of them!

Let’s harvest the next one! And the next one!

 It’s difficult to pull it off!

Let’s work hard to harvest it!

Hey ... we were able to pull it out of the soil!

            Ohhhh!!!!!!!! A lovely radish!

So white! So nice! But...so small!

Radish soup

Although our radishes are small, we made radish soup.

First we washed our hands very carefully.

After we peeled off the vegetables:

Potatoes, Carrots,        Onions, Garlic,

Roots of radish and Leaves of radish

We had the help of the school's canteen staff

Hummmmm…

It seems delicious!!!!

Honestly, we are anxious

to try it!

What we think about international cooperation of growing Sakurajima Radish

We enjoyed very much working in this project through the internet, because we had the opportunity to meet new friends and to share experiences and works. Growing Sakurajima Radish, different species from our vegetables, made us grow with it, because we had the responsibility of taking care of it. We enjoyed very much sharing our school with Sakurajima Radish; it helped us to realize the cycle of life. We would like to live near you and speak Japanese language to meet each other and make a Radish feast together. We would like to travel to Sakurajima, because we think it is a beautiful island.
